R.E.M. – Everybody Hurts
Everybody Hurts is an R.E.M. song found on the R.E.M. album Automatic For The People. Released as a single in 1993, Everybody Hurts peaked at number 29 on the Billboard. Much of the song was written by drummer Bill Berry, although R.E.M. shares their song-writing credits with the entire band. The string arrangement on the album was written by John Paul Jones.
R.E.M. – Losing My Religion
Losing My Religion was the first single released from the R.E.M. album Out Of Time, in 1991. Losing My Religion became R.E.M.’s highest charting song of all time (at the time) reaching number 4. Losing My Religion received tremendous airplay on the now popular MTV and received several nominations for Grammy awards, winning two: Best Pop Performance by a duo with a vocal, and Best Short Form Music Video.
R.E.M. – Shiny Happy People
Released in 1991, Shiny Happy People appeared on R.E.M.’s album Out Of Time. Shiny Happy People featured guest vocals by B-52′s singer Kate Pierson, and reached number 10 on the Billboard 100, which would be R.E.M.’s last charting single. Shiny Happy People was performed by R.E.M. on Sesame Street changing the title to Furry Happy Monsters.

Stand is an R.E.M. song that was released in 1989. Stand quickly rose up the charts in part to a popular MTV video remaining at number 4 on the Billboard. The lyrics of the song impart the wisdom and difficulties of finding direction in one’s life.
