Lithium is another song written by Nirvana singer Kurt Cobain appearing on their album Nevermind, 1991. The song Lithium features quite soft to sudden loud sections, which saw Kurt blow his voice out during the recording sessions.
Nirvana – Rape Me
Rape Me is a song written and performed by Nirvana, appearing on their album In Utero, 1993. The song written by Kurt Cobain during the recording of the band’s second album Nevermind, on acoustic guitar. During the 1992 MTV video awards, Nirvana was to headline and was ‘allowed to perform any song they wished.’ However, hours before the show were informed that they were to play Smells like Teen Spirit. Nirvana however began to play Rape Me giving the producers a small shock. Just before being pulled from a live TV broadcast, the group segued into Lithium.
Nirvana – Heart Shaped Box
Heart Shaped Box was written by guitarist/singer Kurt Cobain for the grunge group Nirvana. Heart Shaped Box was the released third single from Nirvana’s third studio album In Utero, 1993. Receiving tremendous airplay and a released video put into regular rotation by MTV, Heart Shaped Box climbed quickly to number one on the Billboard 100.
Nirvana – Smells Like Teen Spirit
The song title Smells Like Teen Spirit was a spoof directed at Kurt Cobain by a fellow musician Kathleen Hanna of the punk rock band Bikini Kill. Kathleen spray painting Kurt smells like teen spirit, on his wall because Kurt’s then girlfriend wore the deodorant Teen Spirit.
Nirvana – Come As You Are
Come As You Are, was the second single released from the band’s studio album Nevermind. Come As You Are was written earlier than the albums 1992 albums original release. Kurt describes the lyrics as contradictory. Come As You Are, is a plea to be yourself, however when you show up, you end up acting as you are expected to act – a role.
Nirvana – All Apologies
All Apologies was written by front man and lead singer Kurt Cobain, and released off of the Nirvana album In Utero. All Apologies was originally La La La, and was intended as the A-Side for Nirvana’s 45 which does support Rape Me on the B-Side. Kurt dedicated this song to his wife Courtney and to their daughter Francis.
