Although less frequently used, the Thirteen Stroke Roll is another diddle, single drum rudiment that is part of the International P.A.S. forty rudiments. The Thirteen Stroke Roll uses six sets of double strokes and winds up with a single stroke roll. This rudiment is best used in solo patterns but can also be featured in standard drum fills. Timing between the strokes is key to creating a smooth rhythm. You can utilize a metronome to measure the timing between the beats until you can do perform the strokes evenly without assistance.
