The Single Stroke Seven is another popular rudiment, and consequently The Single Stroke Seven is also easily remembered. Single meaning ‘one’ and stroke meaning ‘to hit the drum’. The Single Stroke Seven is an alternating rudiment, and can be started with either the right or left hand. Seven notes are played with alternate sticking – usually as a sextuplet or as two triplets followed by a single quarter note.

Start by striking the drum surface, then alternately strike the drum surface with the opposite hand. Use a metronome to produce clean, well-time strokes that are evenly spaced.
