The Five Stroke Roll is one of the first drum rudiments to use incorporate a diddle as learned from the Double Stroke Open Roll. The Five Stroke Roll is easily remembered, and a frequently used drum rudiment. The Five Stroke Roll is an alternating rudiment, and can be started with either the right or left hand with the first two hits as diddles (doubles) followed by another single hit that is typically accented. Use a metronome to produce clean, well-time strokes that are evenly spaced.
