Develop Speed Between Hands and Feet

An essential component to drumming is the coordination that develops between hand playing (snare, cymbals, toms) and foot playing (hi-hat and bass drum). Developing firm coordination between hands and feet is essential to drummers.

As mastery of speed develops between the hands and feet notice:

In the first exercise a single stroke roll between hands and feet. Pay attention to the sticking pattern and start out slowly until comfortable with the pattern. Use the whole leg (hip flexor) in the pattern (heel up) to develop muscle memory. Initially working with both hands and feet requires some thought and body coordination. Stick with the exercise and once comfortable, build up the tempo. Keep playing clean and accurate.
